পর্যটন ও আতিথেয়তা খাতে বাংলাদেশের নতুন গৌরব
বাংলাদেশের জন্য এটি এক ঐতিহাসিক অর্জন। অভিজ্ঞ পর্যটন ও আতিথেয়তা বিশেষজ্ঞ মোহাম্মদ জহিরুল ইসলাম (ডাল্টন জহির) হয়েছেন SKAL ইন্টারন্যাশনাল মাদ্রিদ–এর প্রথম বাংলাদেশি সদস্য। ৯০ বছরের ইতিহাসে এবং মাদ্রিদ চ্যাপ্টারের ৭০ বছরের যাত্রায় এটাই প্রথম কোনো বাংলাদেশির সদস্যপদ অর্জন, যা দেশের পর্যটন খাতে আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতির নতুন অধ্যায় সূচিত করেছে।
সম্প্রতি মাদ্রিদের পুয়ের্তা দে আমেরিকা হোটেলে আয়োজিত এক আলোচনাসভায় ডাল্টন জহিরকে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে সদস্যপদ সনদ প্রদান করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন জাপানের রাষ্ট্রদূত তাকাহিরো নাকামে এবং অর্থনৈতিক, পরিবহন ও পর্যটন উপদেষ্টা মাই সাসাকি।
SKAL ইন্টারন্যাশনাল মাদ্রিদ হলো ১৯৩৪ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত এক বৈশ্বিক পেশাজীবী সংগঠন, যার লক্ষ্য আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যটন শিল্পে নেটওয়ার্কিং, সৌহার্দ্য এবং টেকসই উন্নয়ন জোরদার করা।
সংগঠনের সভাপতি র্যামন অ্যাডিলন বলেন, “আমরা অত্যন্ত আনন্দিত যে ডাল্টন জহির আমাদের প্রথম বাংলাদেশি সদস্য হিসেবে যুক্ত হয়েছেন। সম্প্রতি তাকে পর্তুগালের প্রেসিডেন্ট ও ইউরোপের প্রধান হিসেবে ‘ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইকোট্যুরিজম সোসাইটি (TIES)’-এর দায়িত্বে নিয়োগ দেওয়া হয়েছে — এটিও আমাদের জন্য গর্বের বিষয়। তার ২৪ বছরের অভিজ্ঞতা আমাদের সংগঠনের জন্য অমূল্য সম্পদ হবে।”
পর্তুগালে প্রেসিডেন্ট ও ইউরোপ প্রধান নিযুক্ত ডাল্টন জহির
অন্যদিকে, পর্তুগালের লিসবনে অনুষ্ঠিত এক অনুষ্ঠানে ঘোষণা করা হয় যে ডাল্টন জহিরকে ২০২৫–২০২৮ মেয়াদে ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইকোট্যুরিজম সোসাইটি (TIES)–এর পর্তুগাল প্রেসিডেন্ট ও ইউরোপ প্রধান হিসেবে নিয়োগ দেওয়া হয়েছে।
এই নিয়োগ নিশ্চিত করেছেন মিসেস ভিলমা ডি. সি. মেন্ডোজা, যিনি Mart Evers-এর সিইও ও TIES Philippines Inc.-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা।
তিনি বলেন, “ডাল্টন জহিরের কৌশলগত ব্র্যান্ডিং ও নেতৃত্ব দক্ষতা আগামী তিন বছরে বিশ্বব্যাপী ইকোট্যুরিজম উন্নয়নে নতুন দিগন্ত উন্মোচন করবে বলে আমরা বিশ্বাস করি।”

এছাড়া তিনি পূর্বে কাজ করেছেন ব্র্যাক সার্ভিসেস লিমিটেড (BSL)–এর বিক্রয় ও বিপণন প্রধান হিসেবে এবং রোজভিউ হোটেল, গ্র্যান্ড সুলতান টি রিসোর্ট অ্যান্ড গলফ, ওশান প্যারাডাইস, লেকশোর হোটেল–এর মতো শীর্ষস্থানীয় হোটেলগুলোতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পদে।
ব্র্যান্ডিং ও ব্যবসা উন্নয়নে তিনি মটোরোলা, অ্যাপল, ফিলিপস ও ফুজিফিল্ম–এর মতো বৈশ্বিক কোম্পানির সঙ্গেও কাজ করেছেন।

বাংলাদেশের প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দর্য, সংস্কৃতি ও রন্ধন ঐতিহ্য বিশ্বে পরিচিত করে তুলতে নিরলসভাবে কাজ করে যাচ্ছেন ডাল্টন জহির।
তিনি ৩৫টিরও বেশি দেশ ভ্রমণ করেছেন এবং আইটিবি বার্লিন, ডব্লিউটিএম লন্ডন, ট্রাভেল অ্যান্ড ট্যুরিজম ফেয়ার ইন্ডিয়া–সহ অসংখ্য আন্তর্জাতিক পর্যটন মেলায় বাংলাদেশের প্রতিনিধিত্ব করেছেন।

এছাড়া তিনি পর্তুগাল–বাংলাদেশ ফ্রেন্ডশিপ অ্যাসোসিয়েশন এবং ট্যুরিজম অ্যালায়েন্স সোসাইটি (TAS)–এর উপদেষ্টা হিসেবেও দায়িত্ব পালন করছেন।
SKAL ইন্টারন্যাশনাল মাদ্রিদ সম্পর্কে
১৯৫৩ সালে প্রতিষ্ঠিত SKAL ইন্টারন্যাশনাল মাদ্রিদ হলো বৈশ্বিক পর্যটন পেশাজীবীদের একটি প্রভাবশালী সংগঠন, যার ৮০টিরও বেশি দেশে ৩০০টিরও বেশি ক্লাব এবং প্রায় ২২,০০০ সদস্য রয়েছে।
সংগঠনের নাম “Skål” এসেছে একটি স্ক্যান্ডিনেভিয়ান টোস্ট থেকে, যার অর্থ সুখ, সুস্বাস্থ্য, বন্ধুত্ব ও দীর্ঘায়ু—যা সংগঠনের মূল দর্শনকেই প্রতিফলিত করে।
ডাল্টন জহির অবসরপ্রাপ্ত বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনীর কর্মকর্তা মোহাম্মদ তাবদিল হোসেন এবং জাহানারা বেগম–এর পুত্র।
তিনি মিসেস উম্মে সালমা সুরভি–এর স্বামী এবং দুই সন্তানের জনক – মাটি বিনতে জহির ও মানাফ বিন জহির।
তার এই আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতি নিঃসন্দেহে বাংলাদেশের পর্যটন ও ইকোট্যুরিজম খাতে নেতৃত্বের নতুন দিগন্ত উন্মোচন করেছে।
Madrid, Spain – In a historic milestone for Bangladesh, renowned tourism and hospitality professional Mohammad Zahirul Islam, widely known as Dalton Zahir, has become the first Bangladeshi member of SKAL International Madrid. This achievement marks a significant chapter in the organization’s 90-year global history and the 70-year legacy of its Madrid chapter.
The membership certificate was formally presented to Dalton Zahir during a recent luncheon held at Hotel Puerta de America, attended by Japan’s Ambassador Mr. Takahiro Nakamae and Economic, Transport and Tourism Advisor Ms. Mai Sasaki.
Founded in 1934, SKAL International is a prestigious global network of tourism professionals that fosters business relationships, networking, and sustainable growth within the industry.
Mr. Ramon Adillon, President of SKAL Madrid, expressed his delight, stating:
“We warmly welcome Dalton as our first Bangladeshi member. It is also an honor to congratulate him on his recent appointment as President of the International Ecotourism Society (TIES) Philippines Inc. for Portugal and Head of Europe. In another proud moment for Bangladesh, Dalton Zahir has been appointed as President of Portugal and Head of Europe for the International Ecotourism Society (TIES) for the 2025–2028 term.
The appointment was confirmed by Ms. Vilma D. C. Mendoza, CEO of Mart Evers and Founder of TIES Philippines Inc., who praised Zahir’s leadership and strategic vision.
She stated:
“We have full confidence in Dalton’s ability to enhance the global ecotourism landscape through innovative branding, sustainable development, and international collaboration over the coming years.”
With over 24 years of diverse professional experience in hospitality, tourism, public relations, media, and international business development, Dalton Zahir is recognized as a dynamic leader in global tourism.

Previously, he held key management roles at BRAC Services Ltd. (BSL), and leading hotels such as Rose View Hotel, Grand Sultan Tea Resort & Golf, Ocean Paradise, and Lakeshore Hotel. He has also collaborated with global technology brands like Motorola, Apple, Philips, and Fujifilm.
Dalton Zahir has been an active advocate for promoting Bangladesh’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and culinary diversity in the global tourism community.
He has traveled across 35+ countries, participating in leading international tourism fairs such as ITB Berlin, WTM London, and India’s Travel & Tourism Fair, where he has consistently represented Bangladesh.
He is an active member of multiple international organizations, including the Photographic Society of America, Tour Operator Association of Bangladesh, World Travellers Club Ltd., European American Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Pacific Asia Travel Association (New York Chapter).
Dalton also serves as Advisor to the Portugal–Bangladesh Friendship Association and the Tourism Alliance Society (TAS).

Dalton Zahir is the son of Retired Bangladesh Army Officer Mohammad Tabdil Hossain and Jahanara Begum.
